For primary school pupils

Materials Needed:

  • Respect Token (e.g., a soft ball, plush toy)

Instructions:

  1. Preparation:
    • Arrange chairs in a circle or sit on a mat to facilitate discussion.
  2. Introduction:
    • Explain the goal of the activity: to share and listen to experiences related to respect and disrespect.
  3. Activity:
    • Start with a student who shares a personal experience related to respect or disrespect.
    • After sharing, the student passes the Respect Token to another student.
    • The next student shares their experience and passes the token to another.
    • Continue until all students have had a chance to share (or as many as time allows).
  4. Discussion:
    • Discuss the effect of listening to each other’s experiences
    • Emphasize the importance of respect and active listening in building a supportive classroom.
    • Print our full-sized Classroom Respect Pledge, get everyone to read it out loud and each person signs their name on it.
