Overview: This DSL Training is designed for those who are either new to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) role or are about to step into it, providing foundational knowledge, essential skills, and the confidence to protect children and young people effectively. With interactive discussions, case studies, and scenario-based learning, our training creates a foundation for DSLs to carry out their critical role within a school setting. Please note that this course does not cover safer recruitment practices. We recommend our Safer Recruitment Training for schools interested in learning more about this area.

This course is ideal for:

  • Newly appointed Designated Safeguarding Leads
  • Deputy DSLs/ASLs
  • Staff new to DSL responsibilities

Note: Participants should have attended our Introduction To Safeguarding training before enrolling in this course.

What You Will Learn: In this course, we cover essential topics to help you build a strong foundation as a new DSL. Key objectives include:

  • Understanding Your Role and Responsibilities
  • Building an Effective Safeguarding Culture
  • Responding to Concerns of Abuse and Harm
  • Working within a Multi-Agency Framework
  • Handling Allegations and Low-Level Concerns
  • Understanding Contextual Safeguarding

Training Fee (Each fee includes materials and certification):

  • Virtual: NGN 60,000 per person
  • Physical: NGN 80,000 per person

Delivery

  • Format: Interactive workshops with case studies and discussions
  • Duration: Full day – 7 Hours Virtual (with three 15-minute breaks), 8 Hours in-person (three 20 minute breaks)
  • Location: Online or in-person (In person trainings are for groups of 5 or more)

Technical Requirements for Virtual Participants:

  • Platform: Zoom or Google Meet
  • Requirements:
    • A stable internet connection
    • A computer or tablet with audio and video capabilities

Certificate:         A digital participatory certificate will be given to registered participants who:

  • Complete activities and engage in discussion
  • Fill the attendance form
  • Complete the training
  • Keep their video on for the duration of the class (For virtual sessions)
