About The Founder
Chibuzo Ijeoma Unachukwu, founder of Saféglia Consult, has dedicated her career to safeguarding, child protection, and ethical leadership in Africa. Her personal goal is to create a world where everyone, especially members of the vulnerable population (children, young people and vulnerable adults), thrive free from harm, abuse, and neglect.
Chibuzo holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nigeria and a Master’s Degree from the University of East London. She has also undergone specialised safeguarding
trainings in the United Kingdom and holds numerous safeguarding certifications including the school management certification at the University of Oulu in Finland.
Professionally, Chibuzo has served as an Organisational Development Manager, Designated Safeguarding Lead, and currently as a Safeguarding and Child Protection Manager. She pioneered safeguarding and child protection initiatives in two British International schools, creating various policies to ensure compliance and accreditation. In Nigeria, she partners with schools, churches and other organisations who work with children to enhance safeguarding practices.
Chibuzo has led safeguarding advocacy on international platforms and hosted various sessions including a session with the Association of Child Protection Professionals in the UK. She is also an Ambassador for Nigeria with the “My Body Is My Body” foundation, which is an internationally acclaimed child safeguarding organisation. These accomplishments highlight her role as a leader and advocate in the global safeguarding community.
Chibuzo’s motivation stems from her vision of a safe world for all. Her approach to safeguarding includes leadership trainings to ensure that leaders are well equipped to support safeguarding personnel in their organisations. Her journey with Safeglia began with the Shielded Space Blog, where she shared her safeguarding insights and resources. Recognising the need to reach beyond the virtual world, she founded Saféglia Consult to provide direct services to those working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Chibuzo also authors the “Secrets In The Woodland” safeguarding book for children, and The Shielded Space Safeguarding Blog. Her hobbies include reading, writing, speaking, travelling, and networking.
Her personal values—empathy, community, resilience, and innovation—are reflected in her leadership style, defined by excellent communication, deep empathy, and teamwork. She believes that safeguarding policies should be integral to the culture of school communities, to ensure safe spaces for children.
Through Saféglia Consult, Chibuzo empowers people and organisations with the knowledge and resources needed to build safe spaces, protecting the vulnerable within our communities.
